2023 Fellows
Oleksii Antoniuk
Oleksii Antoniuk, a junior at Yale University from Ukraine, studies Global Affairs and Economics. He led the Alexander Hamilton Society as Chapter President, founded Ukraine House at Yale, and contributed to a textbook on financial stability. Oleksii interned at the Institute for the Study of War, analyzing Russian military operations in Ukraine. He's an alumnus of the Hertog Foundation's War Studies 2022 Program, with post-graduation plans to support Ukrainian defenses against potential Russian invasion.
Isabel Arroyo
Isabel Arroyo is a junior in Pierson College studying Political Science. She is most interested in legal history, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa. On campus, Isabel is a Human Rights Scholar with Yale Law School’s Schell Center, an orientation trip leader for incoming first-years, and a staff writer for the Yale Record. She also studies Arabic. Before coming to Yale, she served a 6-month AmeriCorps term in Arizona and Colorado.
Bianca Beck
Bianca Beck is a senior at Yale, studying Political Science and East Asian Studies. She grew up moving around the world and now calls Zurich, Switzerland home. During her time at Yale, she has been involved with several organizations that do human rights and conflict resolution work, such as the Yale Law School's Lowenstein Project, the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Myanmar, and the Dwight Hall Urban Fellows program for Public Service and Social Justice.
Lucy Calcott
Lucy Calcott is a sophomore at Yale studying Cognitive Science and is part of the Education Scholars Program. After leaving her home in Limpopo, South Africa, she trained as an English teacher and worked as a project coordinator for non-profits in the Czech Republic, Cambodia and the United Kingdom. She is a tea enthusiast and loves a painting session with a good soundtrack. Lucy works on gender-based violence, education and human rights projects back home, is a writer for the Yale Child Study Center, and dances with the Yale ballroom team.
Annalise Callaghan
Annalise Callaghan, a senior at the United States Military Academy, double majors in Law and Political Science. She serves as Brigade Executive Officer and founded Juris, the academy's legal forum. Annalise also captains the Army Ethics Debate team and leads the Civics Engagement Initiative. A Dean's Writing Fellow and Army Ski Patrol member, she plans to commission into the Military Intelligence Corps, pursue a graduate degree, and work as a Civil Affairs Officer in the Army post-West Point.
Jack Dean
Jack Dean is a senior from Spokane, Washington majoring in International Affairs at the United States Military Academy. He is in company E-4 and serves as the Cadet in Charge of Tank Crew, a spirit support club. He has previously interned for the Joint Staff J5 in the Pentagon, specifically the Strategic Stability Division. Jack hopes to graduate as a Field Artillery officer before becoming an Intelligence officer.
Gabriel Diamond
Gabriel Diamond is a junior at Yale University studying Political Science. He is a member of the Alexander Hamilton Society and the Social Director for the William F. Buckley Jr. Program. Gabriel has worked as a research intern for the Hudson Institute with their Initiative on American Energy Security, and he was a 2022 Political Studies Fellow at the Hudson Institute. In his spare time, you can find him in the gym or reading about Middle East history and politics.
Christian Dionisio
Christian Dionisio, from Verona, New Jersey, majors in American Politics at the United States Military Academy. He's a Presidential Fellow at the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress, focusing on U.S. criminal justice reform. Christian interned at the Office of Defense Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy in Rome. He also plays outside linebacker for the Army Sprint Football team. He aspires to commission as an infantry officer, working to protect vulnerable communities domestically and abroad.
Ryan Gapski
Ryan Gapski is a junior majoring in History. He is in the Brady-Johnson Program in Grand Strategy, studies Portuguese, and is interested in intellectual history, moral theology, education, and Latin America. Originally from San Diego, he enjoys hiking, reading, and watching movies in his spare time. At Yale, Ryan is the President of the William F. Buckley Jr. Program, is a member of the Federalist Party of the Yale Political Union, and is involved with Catholic life on campus. He hopes to work in politics and government after graduation.
Sofia Godoy
Sofia Godoy studies Ethnicity, Race, and Migration, along with Political Science. She's pursuing a French certificate and is enrolled in the Human Rights program at Yale Law School. Sofia is a Peer Liaison at La Casa Cultural, a College Aide at Saybrook, and part of the Grand Strategy cohort. She served as President of the Yale International Relations Association. Beyond Yale, she collaborates with UnidosUS, advocating for culturally responsive mental health resources in K-12 schools. Sofia has also engaged in political campaigns, legislative research, and support for immigrant and refugee services in South Florida.
Salvador Gómez-Colón
Salvador Gómez-Colón, a sophomore history major at Ezra Stiles, hails from San Juan, Puerto Rico. He's spearheaded humanitarian responses globally in disaster and conflict zones. Salvador champions community empowerment, climate resilience, and energy independence in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. He's the author of "Hurricane: My Story of Resilience," published by W.W. Norton, recounting his experiences with Hurricane María and his inaugural humanitarian campaign. Outside his pursuits, Salvador enjoys skateboarding, hiking (especially at East Rock), and playing Exploding Kittens with friends.
Noelle Grau
Noelle Grau grew up in Cobham, U.K. She is a rising junior majoring in Chemistry at the United States Military Academy. Her academic interests include global and public health, specifically providing healthcare access to remote communities. She is an active member of the USMA Spirit Band, Functional Fitness team and is conducting research with the Chemistry and Life Science Department. In the future, Noelle hopes to attend medical school and serve as a Medical Corps officer before working in travelling health clinics.
Alex Greene
Alex Greene, a sophomore in Branford, intends to major in Global Affairs and History at Yale. He's a researcher at the Foreign Policy center of the Yale Policy Institute and serves as tournament director for the New Haven Urban Debate League. Alex is also a proud member of the Yale Undergraduate Moot Court Team, and he is a new editorial intern for the Yale Law Journal. In his free time, he enjoys saber fencing, reading Foreign Affairs and The Economist, and watching Succession.
Keya Gupta
Keya Gupta is a sophomore double majoring in Global Affairs and South Asian Studies. She is interested in public policy, migration and developmental economics with specific interest in the South Asian region. On campus, she is involved with the South Asian Youth Initiative, India at Yale and dances with Yale Rangeela. She tutors with Bridges ESL and Yale CityStep. She spent last summer studying French in Rabat, Morocco where she also interned with a UN partner organization that focuses on migrant and refugee rehabilitation in North Africa.
Sami Haddad
Sami Haddad is a sophomore from Saint Louis, Missouri studying economics and statistics and data science. In his free time, he tutors high school and middle school students in and around the Saint Louis area. For fun, Sami enjoys spending time with his two oldest siblings and three dogs and doing activities such as bowling, hiking, and watching movies.
Sophie Huttner
Sophie Huttner is a Senior studying global affairs, with a particular interest in migration and refugee studies. She has worked with asylum seekers in legal settings and studies the root causes of migration, as well as the role of the state in combating gender-based violence. Sophie leads the Yale Interpretation Network, an organization that provides free interpretation services to nonprofits in New Haven. She speaks Spanish, Portuguese, and Hebrew. Sophie heads to Oxford next year as a Rhodes Scholar.
Mohamed Ibrahim
Mohamed Ibrahim, a first-year Yale student, is considering a major in data science or electrical engineering, alongside economics. His passion lies in merging public reform and STEM innovation, particularly through entrepreneurial startups addressing global challenges. He's focused on creating sustainable solutions through effective international networks and business models.
Samuel Jung
Samuel Jung was born and raised in Columbia, Maryland with his immigrant great-grandfather, grandparents, parents, and sister. Sam is a Law and Legal Studies Major, an Army Boxer, and a rising senior at the United States Military Academy (USMA). Sam has an affinity for youth education and outreach, reflected in his involvement with the USMA Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Equal Opportunity, Elevation Mentorship Club, and Black and Gold Leadership Forum. In the future, Sam hopes to create a language and service based boarding school for at-risk youth.
Diego Lopez
Diego Lopez, initially from Los Angeles, CA, is a Junior at Berkeley College studying Political Science and American Studies and a Human Rights Scholar at Yale Law School. At Yale, Diego is involved with the Yale College Council, Yale First-Gen and Low Income Advocacy Movement, (YFAM), the Yale Hunger and Homelessness Action Project (YHHAP), and Yale Dems. Diego is a fan of anything and everything “chill,” including supporting Chelsea F.C., vibing with friends, and listening to the latest hip-hop, house, and rap.
Megan Nkamwa
Megan Nkamwa was raised Columbia, MD and is currently a rising senior at the United States Military Academy. She is an American Politics major and enjoys researching public policy and urban planning. Furthermore, she is interested in how state-building efforts influence community infrastructure, such as education and housing. She is a Senior Writing Fellow, cadet editor at the West Point Journal of Politics and Security, Army Boxer, and tutor. In the future, Megan aspires to attend graduate school to earn a Master of Public Policy and become a Civil Affairs officer.
Vijay Pathak
Vijay Pathak is a junior from Luxembourg and Toulouse, France, majoring in Ethics, Politics, and Economics. His academic interests lie at the intersections of statecraft, international law, and the foreign and security policies of the EU and United States. His interest in the role the military plays in these areas stems from his experience in the British Royal Air Force’s CCF prior to studying at Yale. Vijay has completed coursework in international relations at Bocconi University in Milan, and most recently, in International Law at the University of Oxford.
Miles Quarterman
Miles Quarterman is a sophomore studying Ethics, Politics, and Economics, with his main focus being politics. Around campus he’s involved in the Yale Political Union, College Democrats, and Moot Court brief writing. He was born in Jerusalem since his dad worked there at the time, and his family moved back to the United States after 7 months. Miles grew up mostly in Montclair, New Jersey, lived in D.C. for 3 years in elementary school and lives in New York City now. In his free time, Miles loves hiking, following sports, and watching documentaries.
Rosie Rothschild
Rosie Rothschild is a junior in Davenport studying Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. She has previously served as VP of Yale Computer Society, a senator in Yale's student government, and a mentor in Code Haven. She has extensive experience working as a software engineer at various tech companies and is hoping to pursue a career at the intersection of tech and law. Rosie is also a backpacking trip leader for incoming first years and plays on the Women's Club Soccer team.
Sydney Schimack
Sydney Schimack, a rising senior at the United States Military Academy, hails from Laporte, Colorado. Her major is Applied Psychology with a minor in Regional European Studies for German. She recently completed a semester abroad in Hamburg, Germany. Sydney's academic interests lie in behavioral and neuroscience, particularly their impact on foreign relations. She interned at the Office of Defense Cooperation in Madrid, Spain, in conjunction with the U.S. Embassy during the 2022 NATO Summit. She is currently an active member of the West Point Spirit Band and the German Language Club. Post-graduation, Sydney aims to serve in the Air Defense Artillery while pursuing graduate studies in neuroscience or biological psychology.
Cammack Shepler
Cammack Shepler, a 2023 West Point graduate from Duxbury, Massachusetts, majored in Economics with a minor in Russian. He'll serve as an infantry officer in the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, stationed in Vilseck, Germany. At West Point, he was Brigade Honor Captain and Chairman of the Honor Committee, overseeing the Honor Code. Cammack was also active in crew, led the Latin Reading Group, and sang tenor in the Cadet Chapel Choir. He aspires to a lifelong career in public service, be it in the military, government, or law enforcement.
Sophia Silwal
Sophia Silwal, a third-year Neuroscience student at Yale, engaged with migrant students through Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services (IRIS), gaining insights into migration's multifaceted aspects: political, economic, and religious. This experience also revealed the richness of these countries' lives, deepening her interest in global affairs and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Beyond PDLI, Sophia is a science tour guide, Women's Health at Yale Research Scholar, Dwight Hall Community Response Fellow, Reiki volunteer at Yale New Haven Hospital, and Co-director of College and Career Readiness at the Migration Alliance at Yale. In her leisure, she enjoys tennis, travel, and reading.
Trinity Stenger
Trinity Stenger was born and raised in Merritt Island, FL and is currently a rising senior at the United States Military Academy. She is an International Affairs major and studied Russian language in Kazakhstan for one semester. Trinity enjoys researching Chinese strategy in Central Asia and has taken a recent interest in international trends of data protection legislation. She is a member of the Army Orienteering Team, a leader in the USMA Catholic community, and leads research and engagement efforts in the International Affairs Forum. In the future, Trinity hopes to work in the intelligence sector with a focus in psychological warfare.
Aidan Stretch
Aidan Stretch is a sophomore in Saybrook College from Washington, DC. majoring in history. At Yale, he is the president of the Men's Rugby Team and a fellow at the William F. Buckley Junior Program. When not on the rugby pitch or in the classroom, he is reading good novels or watching college football. After school, Aidan plans to pursue a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Daniel Tahbaz
Daniel Tahbaz is from Pelham, New York and is a rising senior at the United States Military Academy. He is a Foreign Area Studies (Middle East) major, with a focus on Persian language. His academic interests at the Academy center on Iranian influence in shaping geopolitics of the modern Middle East, along with general studies of Persian culture. He is the Cadet in Charge of the USMA Persian Forum and an active member of the Army Ski Patrol Team. He has previously interned as a research and planning assistant at the Texas Department of Public Safety Homeland Security Office. In the future, Daniel hopes to serve the Army Intelligence community, and have a prolonged career in government service.
Chriss Tuyishime
Chriss Tuyishime, a junior at Berkeley College, hails from Kigali, Rwanda. Majoring in Ethics, Politics & Economics and a Global Health Scholar, his interests span economic development, healthcare equity, business ethics, political ethics, and renewable energy. Chriss is passionate about fostering collaboration between governmental, international, and grassroots organizations for societal change. Outside PDLI, he's been involved with the Yale Association for African Peace and Development, Yale Model African Union I Committee, Yale African Students Association, and Yale Interpretation Network. Growing up in Rwanda fuels his commitment to achieving peace and dialogue.
Doga Unlu
Doga Unlu, a senior at Yale College from Istanbul, Turkey, is double majoring in Cognitive Science and Global Affairs, specializing in decision making. Fluent in Turkish and proficient in German and Russian, she blends security studies with cognitive sciences to provide fresh insights into international strategic decision-making. Doga aspires to work in conflict resolution but also holds interests in maritime law, cybersecurity, and open-source intelligence. Her summer experiences include intelligence analysis at the Institute for the Study of War, research at The Cohen Group, and work in various areas such as religious extremism, Turkey-European Union relations, maritime conflicts in the Eastern Mediterranean, and nuclear nonproliferation.
